The European Centre for
Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an international organisation
supported by 34 States.*
ECMWF’s principal
objectives are the development of numerical methods for medium-range, monthly
and seasonal weather forecasting; the preparation, on a regular basis, of
these weather forecasts for distribution to the meteorological services of
the Member States; scientific and technical research directed to the
improvement of these forecasts; and the collection and storage of appropriate
meteorological data. Satellite and in situ observations provide the
information for up-to-date global analyses and reanalyses of the atmosphere,

ECMWF’s
main computing facility includes supercomputers, archiving and data handling
systems. ECMWF is connected to
the meteorological telecommunication system and to its Member States via

This position sits in the
Communications Section of the Administration Department and the successful
candidate will report to the Head of Communications.

MAIN DUTIES:
|
The
Web Content Manager will be responsible for taking a lead role in maintaining
and co-ordinating ECMWF’s web-based communications.
The
successful candidate will work closely with the Centre’s management, editors,
project leaders and other stakeholders to co-ordinate the site content to
ensure it meets the needs of the target audience
The main
duties of the post are:
- Creating an excellent web content editorial function
that is integrated into the working processes of ECMWF
- Co-ordinating the website content development,
in line with the web content strategy
- Supporting all stakeholders in delivery of the
strategic website content
- Managing and supplying web design services,
ensuring timely delivery of appropriate technical web infrastructures
- Launching and maintaining web content
throughout its lifecycle
- Understanding the habits of users of both the
internal and external websites across the many different platforms,
ensuring successful delivery of ECMWF web services
- Setting key performance indicators
- Monitoring qualitative and quantitative website
usage data and using this to identify improvements to the website

QUALIFICATIONS:
|
To be considered for this
role, candidates should be qualified to degree level or equivalent in an
appropriate field. The successful candidate should be experienced in the
delivery and on-going management of high-quality websites and also have
knowledge and demonstrable experience of project management.
The successful candidate
should have excellent technical skills with advanced knowledge of HTML,
together with experience with known content management systems, such as
Drupal.
He or she should have
excellent communications and relationship management skills as this role
involves influencing a number of different users from other backgrounds and
cultures. Candidates should have a flexible approach, be able to work alone
or within a team, to multi-task, drive projects and meet tight deadlines.
Extremely strong writing
and presentational skills are needed for this role and candidates should have
the ability to solve and analyse problems and make informed decisions.
Experience of working in a
scientific research or weather forecasting environment is highly desirable.
The working languages of
ECMWF are English, French and German. Candidates must be able to work
effectively in English. A good knowledge of one of the other working
languages would be desirable. Interviews will be conducted in English.

REMUNERATION:
|
The successful candidate
will be recruited at the A2 grade and the annual basic salary will be £52,299 net
of tax. This position refers to the employment category STF-C as defined in
the Staff Regulations.
